Book Description
for Dorothy and Mikey by Keiko Kasza
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Dorothy and Mikey are two little hippos who are friends, at least most of the time. In the first story, a game of “Knight and Princess” leads to an argument about who gets to save whom. Next, Mikey’s bragging about being best at everything inspires Dorothy to use her wits to get the best of him. In the final story, Dorothy becomes miffed when Mikey tells her he needs to spend some time alone‑‑until she finds out he has been writing a laudatory poem about her. The natural competition and complication of children at play occupy these very short, linked stories, each with its own sly edge. Kasza repeatedly creates humorous, believable picture stories featuring animal characters who resemble some of the young children who enjoy her books. (Ages 3‑7)
