Book Description
for The Princess and the Admiral by Charlotte Pomerantz and Tony Chen
From The Jane Addams Children's Book Award
The cunning and courageous Princess of the land of the Tiny Kingdom plans a celebration of the kingdom's one hundred years of peace. But her advisors inform her that twenty ships of war are coming to invade their land. Not having any weapons, the Princess brings all the people of the Tiny Kingdom together to devise a clever and, more importantly, peaceful plan to outsmart the Admiral and his fleet. This fable is said to be based on an event that occurred between Vietnam and the Imperial Navy of Kublai Khan in the thirteenth century.
