Matthew Quick: Hello. My name is Matthew Quick.

For much of my life, I didn't know the origin of my last name.
When I asked my grandfather, he would say, "You're American," and that's all he would say about our family name. But in my mid-20s, I took a trip to Ireland, and before I left, my grandfather pulled me aside and he said, "Ask about our last name when you get to Ireland, because I'm pretty sure that we're Irish."

This surprised me, because I'd never heard this before in my entire life.
So when I got to Ireland, I began to ask around about our last name, Quick. And the story that I heard most frequently was that my ancestors were from County Court, and when they left County Court to move to England, they would say, "I'm Matthew of Court." Over time, this got shortened to "Matthew Cork," and because of accent, it morphed into "Matthew Quick."

I don't know if this story is accurate or not, but I heard it so many times in the pubs of Ireland that that's what I'm going with.
All my friends call me Q.
