According to my family, Meddaugh is a Dutch Huguenot name going back to the first ancestor who immigrated from Holland to the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam. He spelled his surname M-I-D-D-A-G-H, and there is still a street in Brooklyn Heights with that name.
