George Ford: Hello. My name is George Ford, and, when I was born, I was given three names. All of my high school and school and elementary school career, I kept the middle name from everybody. Then I started to work as an artist, and the George Ford just sounded like a wonderful, simple, direct name to use. But after having done many books, believe it or not, I saw an anthology by Heather Lee Williams, a book called Black Illustrators and Artists of Children's Books for Young People and Adults. Lo and behold, right after Tom Filos, there was George Cephas Ford. Where in the world did they get my name, Cephas? I finally met the author and I said, "I've been trying to hide my middle name all my life and now you've just got all over the world, George Cephas Ford. Where'd you get it?" She said, "The Library of Congress, my friend, has everybody's name, the full name."
