Neil Waldman: Hello, my name is Neil Waldman. Though I've been called Neil for many years, my original name is Nahom bin Abraham, which is my Hebrew name. Nathan, the son of Abraham, my father. Just before I was born, my parents had a big disagreement about what to call me. My father wanted to call me Barney, because there was a cartoon character named Barney Google, the boy with the googly eyes. My mother would have no hearing of that. She was absolutely adamant against that, and she said, "No, his name should be Neil." But after I was born, my father wouldn't call me Neil. He created a nickname for me, which he used whenever he was feeling very close or loving to me, and he called me "Nooli." But my mom continued calling me Neil throughout my life, and then after he called me Nooli, she started calling me Neilly.
