Gail Sidonie Sobat: Hello. My name is Gail Sidonie Sobat. I am from Canada. The name is actually Serbian. My parents were Ukrainian and Serbian. But there was a great deal of shame attached to being an immigrant in Canada in the 1930s, so they wanted to anglicize and they looked for an unusual name for their daughter that didn't sound Ukrainian or Serbian, so they chose Gail and Sidonie. I learned later that I'm rather a namesake to another famous author. Her name was Sidonie Gabrielle Colette. She is from France and I am from Canada.
